Hi guys, today I will present you a short and comprehensive illustrator tutorial to make delicious M&M chocolate candies in vector format. Hope you find it useful.

Step 1:

Create a circle path. Select your fill and apply the Radiant Gradient.

Use the slider to change the gradient colors and spreading. Make the right gradient color lighter than the left one (which is the main color of your candy).

Copy your circle path (Ctrl/Command + C) and paste in front (Ctrl/Command + F). Scale the new one down to oval shape, then change its gradient type to Linear.
Set the right gradient colors bright as white, keep the left one your main color.

Step 2:

Make a shape like in the picture. Copy and paste in front.
Select the front one and apply the B&W Linear Gradient.

Select both shapes. Open the Transparency pallate, click the more options icon and pick Make Opacity Mask.

You have a blending transparent white shape now, place it on top of the colored circles.

To edit the blending, unlink and select the opacity mask (the gradient shape). Use the gradient tool to change the gradient angle.

After you’ve edited the blending, remember to link the white shape and the opacity mask again by clicking at the space between them in the Transparency palette.

Your candy will look like this:

Step 3:

Group all of them together. Type an “m”, select it, right click > Create Outline. Place it on top your candy, horizontal and vertical align them.

The finished piece will be like this:

Since there are 22 colors of M&M’s candies, you can use the above steps and change the colors to make the one you like.
