In this tutorial, I will combine many simple effects to create an attractive and cool result, to make a lighting-speed car. As other tutorials on 9tutorials, I will just show you the ideas and concept, you should try other variables and settings you wants. Now, let’s start.

Step 01 - Prepare a car

Yup, just go around and find a kind of car you like, I am dreaming of Aston Martin, this is the reason I choose it. I won’t discuss how to cut and remove the picture from the original ones. It is quite easy, right ? Now, create a new file in Photoshop with any size you want. A black background is preferred to make it more impressive. So, we have.

Step 02 - Create a windy effect

Create a new layer above the background layer and the car layer. Now, you make a radical gradient in front of the car, like this.

cars-02

Then you use Smudge tool, with the strength is 75% and remember to select the soft brush. Then you smudge the gradient along the car, you will have a result like this.

Step 03 - Create the lighting ob

Pretty simple, right ? That ’s still not enough for a lighting speed. We are going to create an ob. Create another new layer, call it “Lighting ob” or whatever. Use the Shape tool to draw a small rectangle in front of the car.

And then, you select the Smudge tool again, this time, with the Chalk brush and Strength is only 15%. Smudge around the rectangle, be patient and softly, you will have a nice result.

Step 04 - Add curly lighting.

Create a new layer, then use the Eliptical Marquee Tool with the style is Fixed and width: 10px, height: 500px. Again, these numbers are just my favorites, you should try other values.

You should fill that selection with the white color. Then, go to Filter->Distort->Shear (or Twirl), play round with them to have a beautiful curve. After that, duplicates that layer, go to Filter->Blur->Gaussian Blur with the Radius should be about 10 ~ 15. Merge the copied layer with the original one, then duplicate that new layer. Repeat this step several times, with other settings. You could go to this result below.

Step 05 - Some more dazzling.

Create a new layer then, you are going to add scatters into the picture. You could take a look at beautiful lighting fx tutorial to understand more clearly how to make a random dots like below. After that, you should go to Layer Style -> Gradient Overlay and set the value like my settings in the figure below.

Don’t forget to duplicate the layer and then add more Gaussian Blur Effect to make it more impressive.

Finally, merge all layers. Then press Ctrl + B to open the Color Balance box.

For Midtones section: Set the value 100 for Green and Blue
For Highlight section: Set the value 100 for Green and Blue

(If you don’t add Overlay Gradient effect in step 5, you would have this result )

Hi great tutorial, I’ve done my own image, you can see the result in this link
    http://halom19.mipopayan.com/imagenes/carro.jpg
    Is a ford Mustang.
But in the last step, when you said, “Then press Ctrl + B to open the Color Balance box…” Ichange the values, but just the color of the car was modified, not the smog and the Lighting ob, did not get the color balance I was chosing. Any advice?
