Have you ever want to add a wood bridge to your (or another ’s) anime pictures or photo? This tutorial would like to help you do that, and the result will make you surprise when others can’t detect the different after all.

Step 1: First, prepare a picture like this (background is a photo which has been applied Surface Blur, and character is extracted from a scan)

ScreenHunter_006

Step 2: I won’t say about exact size of the vertical fence since it is mostly up to what will you use this method for.So this is just an example.Create a rectangle selection (remember to check its scale with things in the pic),fill it with color #3a290a.Then use Dodge Tool (50% Strength and soft brush) to lighten parts(like the pic)

ScreenHunter_007

Create another selection with the size same as above.Fill the new selection with black(on a new layer of course). After that Filter > Add Noise > Type Gaussian - Monochromatic; the value is vary,in mine i put it around 12.5 %.Next is Filter>Blur>Motion Blur (Angle 0,value is around 30); remember to use smudge smooth out the two end.Use Curves command to make it darker .After all of that, put the layer on the top of the first one and press Ctrl + Alt + G

Step 3:Create yet another new selection and with the sazme size, this time fill it with #6e490e.Use dodge tool to lighten its part up like the pic below.

ScreenHunter_002

Put it on top of the two first one, then set the Blending Mode to Linear Dodge. You have the result as below.

ScreenHunter_003

Step 4: Do the same as the Vertical Fence, with the Horizontal ones. And we have this:

ScreenHunter_004

Step 5: Remember to add shadows by Burn Tool (Shadows,Strength :50 %,soft brush) at the connect at the vertical and the horizontal ones.

ScreenHunter_005

Step 6: How many horizontal one is up to you for the decision, and so is the spacing between them.Just keep repeating the steps until you have something like this(also try to play with Smudge tool,Burn Tool and Dodge tool to create indefinite textures on the wood)

Note : Ctrl + Alt + G,is an optional step for who those are lazy in measuring exact size between the layers. This is its effect:

Without

With:

ScreenHunter_003

Mean you can just fill the entire layers without making a selection with the exact same size (after you have made your first one of course). Then press Ctrl + Alt + G,and the odd content of the top layer will be hide, which show the same result as you carefully measure to create the same selection as the first one.

Final Note: The color of the wood should be depended on your background.

End of Tutorials

This is not something big,but i hope you all find it helpful somehow.Sorry if the tutorial is a bit hard to understand.

Good luck.
