Create a beautiful and extraordinary effect with some simple steps. Why don’t you try it ?

Part one:
Open up a new photoshop document and make the size 900 by 900. Then click on view and select view actual pixel from the drop down menu.
Click on the gradient tool
and create the gradient below. I used #081d48 on the left and #075f9d on the right.

I then drag out the gradient on the work space with the light color on top. With that create a new layer.

Now select the brush tool and pick soft air brush as your settings.
![]()
With that brush selected, change the setting to the Brush Presets shown below. To get that option, click on the brush and on the upper task bar you will see this icon
click on it and you will see the settings below.

Shape Dynamics Settings

Scattering Settings
Using the bush settings described, and on the new layer create the glowing orbs shown below.

Duplicate this layer, so you will have two layers with the orbs. Now using the free transform tool
to switch the orbs in the other direction. This can be done by adding a (-) sign to the width of the orbs.
![]()
Move the orbs to the other side of the work space (right side). Make sure that the orbs have a symmetrical look to it. It should look like a rough example of wings when you are finish.
Merge the two layers with the orbs together (you can press ctrl&E to do this.)
Now duplicate the layers with the orbs again and click on the original layer with the orbs. Move to filter > blur then Gaussian blur. Apply a blur of about 3.9.

Merge the two layers with the orb once again. Now duplicate this for the last time (ctrl &J). Click on the original (should be the bottom layer of the orbs) and select the smudge tool
. Use a soft brush with a size of 40 and strength of 25.
![]()
And smudge the upper left and upper right of the orbs. This will give them a pointed look. Use the picture as a reference.

Create a new layer, now using this brush Click here to download it. Add it to your workspace. Duplicate the layer and place both of them in a place where you like.
I placed them in the middle of the orbs to make it look like light particles. You can try the same thing if you want, feel free to do what you want though. Click on the original abstract brush you placed on the canvas and use the blur tool again to make it a little smoother. You Just drag it over the abstract to remove any pixilated sections. You should use a soft brush to do this, use 19 as the amount of strength.
![]()
Merge the two abstract brush layers together. Now use the erase tool
to remove any edges you don’t want.
Use the settings shown in the picture as a reference.

Erase this
Now go to layers and pick new layer adjustments from the drop down menu and finally select color balance. Select violet as your color. You will see mid tones, shadows, and highlights. Just apply the respective setting to each. Use the picture at the bottom as a reference.

Shadow

Midtone

Highlight

Click on image to see a better picture
After you finish this blend (merge) all the layers together, that includes the background and the abstract.
Duplicate this layer and set the top layer to hard Light for the final step.

That is it. You are finished.
man that is tight waht is this photoshops name
Not as easy as it looks.
Mine looks rather different, but cool nonetheless :-)

Thank you
good tutorial
After you get to the abstract brush it becomes a little confusing. Great tutorial, but needs a little work to clear up confusion.
I tried the blur tool, and the options look nothing like what is shown.
Thanks very much this could come in handy
Nice, but I’m stuck so I’ll have to figure out things on my own. You may want to put more clarity in your steps and let people know that the screenshots they’re viewing are just part of the document, b/c you don’t explain how long the brush stroke should be for the orbs and such..

Uhmmm I cant find some of the tool stuff you talk about in the abstract image tutorial, and I’m using adobe photoshop from the bundle called CS3, a real beginner here, but want so much to learn to make beautiful graphics like you do.
ANY suggestions are welcome, I bought the book for the software as well, so I’ve even looked there;( HAYELP!

I must say I was disappointed to see that you have to download a brush to do this. It feels like cheating. None-the-less I downloaded it anyway. Then I couldn’t figure out what to do with it. Add a brush to your workspace?
OK I figured out what the wording for that brush means, but I am still disappointed about the brush file download, I came into this tutorial to learn how to make these cool streaks, but you don’t say how to make them.
Good tutorial until the half way the instructions become very hazy. Example: “Create a new layer, now using this brush Click here to download it. Add it to your workspace. Duplicate the layer and place both of them in a place where you like.” What should i do with the brush? Duplicate what layer? I did get it at the end but a little bit confused..

cant unzip brush using windows any suggestions?
Not a good tutorial, too difficult to understand and requires a brush download.
You need to invest a bit more time explaining your steps, a lot of them don’t make sense.

Awesome tutorial to learn. Very easy and well defined . thanks for sharing this nice post.
nice tutorials
Very nice colors and quite a simple tutorial compared to all other tutorials I found about this subject.
These days you see a lot of pictures with neon glow effects like this, like car headlight pictures where the shutter stayd open for quite some time. Is there a Photoshop filter for this ? Anyone please, let me know … htusco-at-gmail.com?
Cheers,
Henry
thank u
cool tutorial. the walkthrough got a little cluttered and confusing after downloading the brush though.
to clear up some things
1. if you are on mac, open the brush zip with stuffit or another archive tool. the mac Archive Utility will get confused and unzips it to a cpgz, if you try to unzip the cpgz it will extract the original zip again.
2. to load the brush, open your brush options and click the little brush menu (it’s in the top right above the brush previews in CS3). click load brushes and navigate to wherever you unzipped the brush file to, select the paintbrush file and load – you should be able to use it now.
This is a good one! Thanks for sharing your knowledge. The more you give, the more you will receive.
i think you forgot to mention a step or two, i manage todo everything but i could not get it to look like yours, maybe re-look this tutorial
Thanks Jls, wondered why the brush wasn’t downloading.
Nice tutorial :D
I have done everything you have done and not got the same results

This tutorial is vague and quite frankly a piece of shit. I’m no beginner but this is confusing and just lazy. Try harder next time.
this tutorial doesnt make any sense at all.WASTE of time.

Well, I downloaded the brush, but I’m not sure which one it is..
does it have a number?
not sure when did you post the brush, but as soon as I tried I laughed.
to create this abstract, you just do the scatter and single click with the brush, fix the color and YOU”RE DONE!!!
thanks XD
Guys, it won’t look exactly like how it is shown on this picture. What you need to do is mess with the color balance to get the colors the author got. As for the canvas, he just wants you to create a new layer, click once on the layer with the downloaded brush and duplicate that layer so you have 2 layers of the same brush. Use a soft eraser with 47 opacity for the best results :P and like I said, for the last steps just mess with the color balance until it looks close to his.
I followed everything in the tutorial. Can’t get something really look like yours. But thanks for sharing anyways.
Thanks for this tutorial, it looks just amazing!!! Love the colors! For these abstract images I found a great software Flame Painter, it’s really easy. Ever tried?
